The Challenge: Modernizing a Legacy Platform
Gundlach's B2B eCommerce website was built on the Django web platform. While functional, the aging platform did not meet the company's need for a more robust, scalable, and feature-rich solution capable of handling the complex demands of its B2B customers. The company needed a new platform to support essential functionalities, including a "Distributor Near You" locator and a favorites/wishlist feature. A key part of the project was developing a new site that could be fully integrated with the company's NetSuite ERP system to manage B2B customer data efficiently.
Recognizing the need for a more robust, scalable, and feature-rich platform, Beno partnered with Snapshot to explore alternative solutions.

The Solution: A Strategic Migration to Shopify Plus
After careful evaluation, Shopify Plus was selected as the platform of choice, and a solution was crafted to not only replicate existing functionality but also to introduce new, powerful features. The project included setting up and configuring the new Shopify website, installing and customizing a theme, and integrating third-party applications to meet the company’s unique needs.
Key features and apps implemented to enhance the user experience included:
- The Empire theme from Pixel Union was selected and customized to match the Beno J. Gundlach brand colors and fonts.
- The Shopify Search & Discovery app was configured to enhance product filtering and provide AI-powered search capabilities.
- The Progus Store Locator Map app was recommended and used to re-create the "Distributor Near You" functionality for approximately 700 locations.
- The Shopify Forms app was used to replicate the account signup and distributor request forms from the old site. New account requests are then reviewed and approved or denied by the Beno team.

A Critical Component: Data Integration Between Shopify & NetSuite ERP
A crucial and complex component of the solution was the comprehensive data integration between the new website and the company's NetSuite ERP system, which was implemented using Celigo. This robust integration was designed to ensure that the new Shopify Plus site would act as a true B2B eCommerce platform by establishing a bidirectional flow of critical data.
Specifically, the integration was configured to:

Create B2B companies in Shopify based on the locations of their distributors in NetSuite.

Create B2B users under those new company locations in Shopify, mirroring the contact information from NetSuite.
This seamless data flow ensured that all customer and order information was synchronized across both platforms, providing a foundation for accurate inventory management and fulfillment, while also ensuring that only approved customers with existing accounts could log in, view pricing, and access the shopping cart.
