NetSuite Modules and Solutions

NetSuite modules are optional capabilities licensed in addition to the NetSuite core platform.

How NetSuite is built

Understanding NetSuite Modules

Each NetSuite module is designed to support a specific business process, such as financial management, inventory control, warehouse operations, CRM, or ecommerce. Because NetSuite is built on a modular architecture, businesses can implement the capabilities they need today and add more as their requirements grow.

NetSuite modules fall into two categories. The base platform includes core financial and accounting functionality that every NetSuite customer receives. Add-on modules are separately licensed capabilities that extend the platform into areas like advanced inventory, warehouse management, demand planning, manufacturing, and analytics. The right combination depends on how your business operates, what you sell, and how complex your workflows and reporting requirements are.

Snapshot is a NetSuite Alliance Partner with more than 25 years in business and more than 12 years of experience helping manufacturers, distributors, and operationally complex businesses select, implement, and configure the right NetSuite modules for their operations.

The base platform

What Comes Standard with NetSuite?

Every NetSuite subscription includes a core set of financial and operational capabilities that form the foundation of the platform. Understanding what is included in the base platform is an important first step before evaluating which add-on modules your business needs.

As operations grow, reporting requirements become more complex, or new business lines are added, add-on modules provide the additional functionality the base platform does not include by default.

Core capabilities included in the NetSuite base platform

  • General ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Basic inventory and item management
  • Sales order and purchase order management
  • CRM functionality, including opportunity tracking, sales forecasting, and customer service (additional CRM licenses are needed)
Add-on modules

Beyond native modules

NetSuite SuiteApps and Add-Ons

SuiteApps are applications built on NetSuite's SuiteCloud development platform that provide extensions and customizations to meet specific industry or local business requirements. They are available from Oracle NetSuite directly as well as from NetSuite partners, and the SuiteApp marketplace provides a directory of certified SuiteApps.

Unlike native modules, SuiteApps must be installed separately and may carry their own licensing terms. For example, the Rebates and Trade Promotions SuiteApp is a paid and managed SuiteApp that is installed from the SuiteApp Marketplace and requires a NetSuite OneWorld account.

Snapshot helps businesses identify which SuiteApps are appropriate for their configuration and evaluates fit, licensing, and implementation requirements before recommending any third-party application.

Expanding Your ERP Over Time

One of the practical advantages of NetSuite's modular design is that you do not need to license everything at once. Businesses can start with the modules that address their most pressing operational needs at implementation and add capabilities over time as requirements evolve.

Common reasons organizations add NetSuite modules after go-live include:

  • Adding locations or warehouses that require more advanced inventory management
  • Expanding into new sales channels that need ecommerce or B2B portal functionality
  • Acquiring a new business that requires multi-subsidiary management through OneWorld
  • Growing transaction volumes that make demand planning or WMS a justified investment
  • Finance team requirements for more advanced reporting, budgeting, or close management
Go-livePhase 2Phase 3 123 Core platformAdvanced InventoryWMSDemand Planning Core platformAdvanced InventoryCore platformAdvanced InventoryWMSDemand PlanningOneWorld

NetSuite’s architecture is designed to support incremental expansion. New features are added as modules and build on existing capabilities, and most NetSuite modules run in the same NetSuite account without a separate integration. Some modules require additional setup, installed SuiteApps, or NetSuite Professional Services, and SuiteProjects Pro is a separate application that connects to NetSuite through an integration.

Sequencing matters most when planning a phased module approach. Some modules deliver greater value when implemented alongside related capabilities, and some configurations are more difficult to change after go-live. Snapshot helps organizations plan a NetSuite module roadmap that accounts for current needs and future growth, so each addition builds on a solid foundation and avoids new configuration debt.

Licensing

NetSuite Module Pricing: What Drives Your Cost?

NetSuite modules are separately licensed add-ons to the base NetSuite subscription. Each module carries its own licensing fee, and costs vary based on the module's capabilities, the number of users, and the scope of your overall NetSuite configuration.

A NetSuite license combines the core platform, optional modules, and number of users, plus a one-time implementation fee. Contact Snapshot to discuss your configuration.

For a detailed breakdown of how NetSuite pricing works across all components, including base platform fees, user licenses, and implementation costs, see our NetSuite Pricing Guide.

The factors that most directly affect module-related costs include:

  • The number and type of modules activated
  • The number of users
  • Implementation scope, including whether modules require custom configuration or integration work beyond standard setup

Choosing the Right Modules for Your Industry

Selecting the right NetSuite modules is not a generic exercise. The modules that deliver value for a food and beverage distributor managing lot tracking and FIFO costing are different from those needed by a commercial landscaping company managing job costing and seasonal labor, which are different again from an industrial distributor running a multi-warehouse operation with EDI-connected customers.

Snapshot works with businesses to identify which modules align with their operational workflows, reporting requirements, and growth plans. The table below reflects the modules most commonly relevant to each industry we serve, based on more than 12 years as a NetSuite Alliance Partner. Advanced Inventory Management, WMS, and the other add-on modules listed are separately licensed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: NetSuite Modules

Don't see yours? Ask our team.

What modules does NetSuite include?

NetSuite includes a core set of financial and operational capabilities in the base platform, covering general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, basic inventory and item management, sales and purchase order management, and CRM functionality including opportunity tracking, sales forecasting, and customer service (additional CRM licenses are needed). Beyond the base platform, NetSuite offers a broad library of add-on modules across financial management, inventory and order management, warehouse and supply chain, manufacturing, ecommerce, human resources, analytics, and professional services automation. Each add-on module is separately licensed and activated based on the specific needs of the business. Businesses can implement a subset tailored to their industry and operational requirements.

What is the difference between NetSuite modules and SuiteApps?

NetSuite modules are Oracle NetSuite capabilities licensed in addition to the core platform. Most run in the same NetSuite account without a separate integration, although some require additional setup, installed SuiteApps, or NetSuite Professional Services. For example, NetSuite WMS requires the NetSuite WMS SuiteApps, and SuiteProjects Pro is a separate application that connects to NetSuite through an integration. SuiteApps are applications built on NetSuite’s SuiteCloud development platform and available from Oracle NetSuite as well as NetSuite partners. They provide extensions and customizations to the platform and must be installed separately. Both can play a role in a complete NetSuite configuration, but they differ in how they are licensed and installed. When evaluating SuiteApps, it is important to assess the vendor’s certification status, support model, and upgrade compatibility alongside NetSuite platform releases.

Can I add NetSuite modules after going live on NetSuite?

NetSuite’s modular architecture is designed to support incremental expansion. Modules can be licensed and activated after go-live, subject to your NetSuite contract terms, and most run in the same NetSuite account without a separate integration. Some modules require additional setup, installed SuiteApps, or NetSuite Professional Services, and SuiteProjects Pro is a separate application that connects to NetSuite through an integration. The main considerations when adding modules post-go-live are sequencing, configuration planning, and any data cleanup or restructuring that may be needed to support the new functionality. Some modules are simpler to add than others, and some configurations are harder to change after transactions have been processed. Snapshot helps organizations plan a module roadmap that accounts for these dependencies before they become constraints.

Which NetSuite modules do distributors and manufacturers typically need?

The modules most commonly relevant to distributors and manufacturers include Advanced Inventory Management for demand-based replenishment, Warehouse Management System for directed warehouse operations, Demand Planning for purchasing and inventory forecasting, Advanced Order Management for omnichannel fulfillment, and OneWorld for businesses managing multiple subsidiaries or entities. Advanced Inventory Management and WMS are separately licensed add-on modules. Manufacturers typically also need Work Orders and Assemblies, WIP and Routings, and in more complex environments, Advanced Manufacturing and Production Scheduling. The specific combination depends on the size and complexity of the operation, the number of locations and warehouses, the nature of the product line, and integration requirements with customers and suppliers. Snapshot's module recommendations always start with an operational assessment.

How does NetSuite module pricing work?

NetSuite modules are separately licensed add-ons to the base NetSuite subscription. Each module carries its own licensing fee. A NetSuite license combines the core platform, optional modules, and number of users, plus a one-time implementation fee. Contact Snapshot to discuss your configuration.

Do I need all NetSuite modules to get started?

Businesses can implement a subset of NetSuite modules at go-live, focused on the capabilities that address their most immediate operational needs. NetSuite's modular design allows organizations to start with a configuration that fits their current requirements and expand over time as the business grows, adds locations, enters new channels, or develops more complex reporting and planning needs. Setting up the initial configuration correctly matters most, so that future module additions build on a solid foundation and avoid rework. Snapshot helps businesses scope an initial implementation that supports both current needs and the growth trajectory of the business.
